Answer

Welcome XXXXXX. Are you referring to the sludge that builds up around the cap? If so, this is normal for the coolant and only requires a coolant flush. If not, this is usually caused by failed intake gaskets. Please ask if you need more information.

No, what I am refering to is actual engine oil IN the antifreeze. This engine has already had the head and intake gasket replaced.

Answer

Ok, thank you for clearing that up. Please check you transmission fluid. The cooler for the transmission is in the tank of the radiator and could be compromised. If you have already replaced the head and intake gaskets, unless you have a severe internal engine failure, which you would know, the only place left to get oil into the antifreeze is the transmission cooler. Please let me know if this is the case or if we need to look deeper. Thanks.

Radiator/cooler has been replaced. Antifreeze smells of engine oil, and is not red like transmission fluid. Engine is original, no failures, runs fine.

Ok. Thank you for clearing that up. Have you pressure tested the cooling system? What model is your 2001 chevy?
