My cockatiel won't leave the wound on her back alone to heal. Bitter spray doesn't stop her. Any ideas please?

Answer

Hi there. Yes, you can get special 'buster collars' designed for birds. These are the sort of lampshade type collar (elizabethan collar) that dogs and cats get to stop them chewing stitches out. They sell them for birds in pet stores and in veterinary surgerys.

If you want, you can try and make your own with cardboard- cut a circular collar, with a circular hole in the center, place around the neck and tape into place (the bought ones are easier!!). This will stop the bird getting to the wound.
