Question
I have been renting a building from a man who has been seriously injured and unable to take collect his rental money. Two unknown members of his family has come by my place of business in an effor to find out what I am paying for rent and said they will be back the 1st of the month to collect the rent money. Am I oblibated to just pay these people money when they have no paperwork stating that they are the power of attorney? What rights do I have in order to protect my interest for my business?

Answer
I understand your frustration with handing your hard earned rent money over to "random" family members. So I would re-examined your lease agreement.
I would send him money as it is detailed on your lease. If the lease calls out for him to pick up the money at your place of business I would request that the unknown members of his family provide powers of attorney to act on his behalf. If they have no documentation then you can always place the rent money into a court escrow until the family members can prove they have rights to the money.
