Question

I have a 88' 735i, just turned classic after 20 years, 4th owner and would like to maintain this baby. However, the sunroof closes with about a 1inch open gap so, I have to use the z wrench to manually close it! Is there a method of adjusting it?

Answer

Hello, It sounds like you need to open fully and clear the tracks of debris. This can be done with soap and water in a spray bottle. You may want to vacuum it first. After you have cleaned then lubricate tracks with a silicone type lubricant. Also ensure the air dam in the front is not sticking. Thanks and please accept if I have been of help. Jacob.

I do keep the tracks oiled and the channels free of debris, I was hoping for how to adjust the overhead switch panel and the cylinder lined up so that the sunroof chords or line is equilinear. I change oil, plugs, clean my K&N airfilter, rotate tires myself plus wash, polish and rubber treat this baby. Do you have a diagram as to how to do the adjustment?

Jacob the Great, are you related to Alexander? Thanks for the 411 but do you have aninstructional/sketch/diagram of more concerning the
overhead z crank assembly area. Okay, all honesty Jacob, I've seen my mechanic do this from the cockpit from a diagram he got off from the net, subsequently i've lost that paper and my mechanic folded his business and he's got to take care of his Alzheimers mom. It was more or less of lining up two lines or points realigning the chords that would open & close the sunroof with ease. I hope you can help me; it's a bummer not being able to enjoy the summer with Hawaiian air! Aloha

Answer

As I recall -remove motor and align cables to parallel junction or notch. Ensure motor is in correct position as described in previous mail I sent. It has marks. Re install motor and you should be golden. Thanks, throw me a bone. I will look for that diagram still.
