Question
I have a 1995 325i with 200K. It has developed a shimmy in the rear when I torque the car, (at 2-3000 rpm) seems to be the drive shaft. Anyhow a new drive shaft and tie rods would cost me $1300 with an additional $1300 or body work needed about now. Should I buy a new car or spend the $2600. The engine compression is good and the car is in good shape otherwise.

New tires. That helped for about 10 minutes. The shimmy problem started in 2nd gear but now shows up in all greats.

Hello, You may be able to find a similar 325i with lower millage for not much more then the cost of your repairs. If your car is an automatic transmission I would look for a replacement vehicle. However I have seen these cars last up to 650,000 miles. You also know the history of your cars maintenance and repairs. Again, this repair is more affordable then a monthly car payment. I would shop around to see what options you have. "Craig's List, com is a good local source. Best wishes, Jacob. P.S You can also sell your car on that site.
