Optional Information

1987 Porsche 911 Targa 3.2 liter

Already Tried:
Cracked brake line on front wheel to releave pressure. Pushed pad away from disc and spun wheel with normal amount of hand force. Applied and released brakes and wheel would again not rotate. Did the same procedure with a rear wheel, results were the same, after brakes were applied could move the wheel by hand. Didn't do this to all wheels but know that all are dragging because the calipers don't seem to be releasing the pads.

Answer

Hi there! Most likley cause is the power brake booster and or the master cylinder. You should replace them as a set.We call this a loaded brake booster.Hope this helps! Thanks

Other than play replace everthing till it works, can you give me an idea how to further isolate the problem?

The car hasn't been used very much for the last year, due to a family illness, but its been under cover in an unheated area in the Seattle area.

Accepted Answer

OK.I think because it has been sitting I would start by taking the calipers off and making sure the sliders work freely and make sure the pads aren't stuck in the pad brackets. It seems like the place to start, sometimes they get stuck and sticky.Normally releasing the pressure through the bleeder doesn't help, but it is worth looking at.
