Question

I have a volvo xc90 T6 2005, with 94000 miles. Recently the check engine light came on while driving and I took it to a volov dealer. I have had my car serviced regularly. They were getting an error code on cylinder 1. I had them to a compression test and the results were 45% leakage and 85% psi. Of course, I have extended warranty and the insuracne company is requiring a tear down to determine cause of failure. What could be the possible cause of failure?

Answer

Hello XXXXXXXXXXX, if you are having a loss of compression on just one cylinder then you most likely have a valve problem or a head gasket issue. It is possible to have a crack in the head or block or some warpage, but these are not likely if you did not overheat the engine.

How would the engine overheat under normal use.

Accepted Answer

The engine would only overheat if something failed. You would have noticed the temp of the engine getting hot if this happened.
