Question

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous. At random times, about twice a month, all my electrical system will go out for about 3 seconds at a time. My lights quit working, radio, gauges, everything. Then flash right back on like nothing happened. Also, the past two weeks, my car has (twice), stopped working. I will go to start my car, and the lights will be on, such as the headlights and dome light, when I try to start it nothing happens, not a sound nothing. We tried to jump it at first, nothing happened, a friend of mine said it could be the security system, so we took the battery off and let it sit for about 15 mintues and then plugged it in and worked fine, the second time, I unplugged the battery for all of 10 seconds and put it on and it started working...?!?!

So far just unplugging the battery. The lights have been shorting out for a couple months but it only happens once or twice a month and for a few seconds. As for my car not starting that has only happened twice in two weeks, so I am getting a little worried about my electrical system now.

Hello!

This will not be a security issue. The security system does not shut all electrical down.

What I would recommend is to get your BCM scanned for codes. The body control module will store any body codes. SO if anything electrical is going on that should not be, it will set a body code. A regular code reader will not be able to pull these kinds of codes. You either need to go to the dealer, or go to a shop that has a scanner that can pull codes from your body control module.
