Question

where is the transmission fluid intake in my 1992 525i Station Wagon? My transmission is leaking fluid, and I'm wondering if it's OK to add a transmission fluid leak stopper fluid from the hardware store? I already had it serviced last week.

Answer

Hello, The filler plug is located on the transmission. It depends on what transmission you have. ZF filler plugs are in the center of the pan, -recessed upwards. Gm and Getrag are on the left or right of the transmission. You will need a 17 mm Allen socket or wrench. However if it is leaking and you just had it "serviced" I would recommend you have the leak fixed and ensure the correct fluid is used. The fluid level can be checked with the engine on and when full it will just drip out of the fill. I highly recommend you do not add a stop leak additive. Gaskets and seals will fix your leak.
