Need Info on Old Homes for Story
Sent to General Experts July 15 10:17 PM

I am working on a story that is set around an old farmhouse in the south. I am envisioning a "Forest Gump" type home with wrap around porches and exits doors from each of the bedrooms onto the porch. Porches are both upstairs and downstairs.

Anyone know what you would call this architectural style? And what each of the exit doors are called? The exit doors might be screen doors that allow for a breeze in the summer.

I have heard it before but am drawing a blank. I wanted to say that the porch is called a portico but that really defines any porch supported by columns so that is not specific enough.

Anyone have any specific words that you can share with me?

If you can give me a home layout for a home like this, this would even be better. Maybe an idea of how the bedrooms, kitchens, etc, are laid out.

No. These really don't look like what I have in mind. Have you ever seen the movie "Forest Gump?" That's the kind of house that I'm thinking of.

Anyone else have any ideas?
