Question

I have a two part questions. I own a 2004 330xi sedan. The passenger side window switch actually broke off next to the shifter and I need to replace it. I have found the replacement part online but how do I install it? Second I have side view mirrors that are out of whack. I use the controls to adjust them but they sort of do their own thing and sometimes they move without me touching anything. I have resorted to manually adjusting them. Is it a bad mirror motor or wire/computer connection?

The mirrors are not loose. They appear to be normal. Both mirrors are not working properly when I use the mirror control. For instance if I direct them down they will just keep going all the way down and not stop. The same with up, in, or out. However, the passenger side does operate properly and face down when backing up, then it comes back to the previous position it was in. It just seems to be a problem to get them to stop in the right position.

Answer

With out having the vehicle and a BMW tester the mirror issue could be a bit tough to diagnose . I would have to say that the mirror motors are probably not the problem . It could be as simple as a faulty switch , very easy to replace you could do your self . You may also have a problem with the control unit , the control unit will need to be replaced and programed by the dealer . I would recommend replacing the switch , if the switch does not repair the problem I would take it into the dealer .

Thanks and I hope this helped .
