Answer

Hi you will have a faulty fan speed resistor, it is under the dash in the side of the heater box, best to get the dealer to change it as it is a bit tricky and the faults will need cleared.Cheers

the aux fan i'm refering to is in front of the condenser or condenser fan assembly, however the a/c control head i tried in place of the old one was not the right one, so that might still be an issue..

the speed resistor is for the blower motor, not the condenser fan motor right !! i'm having problems with the condenser fan not coming on with the a/c with a code 141

There was a service bulletin about this from dont remeber the production dates but it was to recode the ihks(climate control) if you have power at the fuse and no activation-probably the ihka- see if you can get the same one and try plugging it in see what happens-

Answer

Hi, Sorry for the delay and thanks for the assitance bmwforeman.

It was not clear ifn your first question that it wad the electric fan in front of the radator, so now we are clear on which part is faulty.

The fan is a two speed fan which operates with the a/c and when the engine over heats it will not work until the engine temp gets well past the halfway on the gauge.

There is a sensor with a three pin plug in the side of the radator that if you bridge the wires two at time you can make the fan work on both speeds one at a time, it is possible to have one speed fail and the other still work. you should also hear the relay click. hope this is more helpfull.
