Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXX,

How is your cockatiel doing now?   Is he eating and drinking? I'm worried that you said it took him so long to come back around. He certainly could have some internal injuries that you can't see. I'm sure he is a bit painful as well.

At home, I would make sure he is in a warm part of the house with easy access to food and water. I don't want him to have to move around much and expend energy if he doesn't have to. I would have several food and water stations for him. To keep the cage warm you can put a heating pad underneath the cage (on the outside, not inside) and then partially cover the cage to help keep the heat in.

Just to be safe, it would be wise to take him to a vet just to make sure he doesn't have injuries you can't see and to possibly get some pain medication.   Birds are so good at hiding things when they don't feel welll. If you don't have a vet, please let me know where you live and I can possibly give you a referral or you can go to www.abvp.com (find a diplomate) or www.aav.org (vet look-up) to find an avian vet.

Please let me know how he is doing or if I can answer any further questions. If I have helped you today, please click on 'Accept'. Thank you!
