Optional Information

2004 Ford f-250 SD 5.4

Already Tried:
Left front wheel bearing changed (dealer) Jacked rear end and brought the truck up to 45 -50 mph groaning noise starts and stays consistent. Tires have 800 miles on them. i believe that it is not the tires. Noise changes a bit when shifted into 4 wheel high, hubs not locked.

Thanks

Answer

Hello XXXXX and Thank you for choosing Just Answer.

If you jacked up the rear of the vehicle and put the vehicle in drive and heard the growling. Sounds like the bearings in the rear end could be bad. Could be the carrier and pinion bearings. Most likely the rear end will ahve to be rebuilt

Thank you. I will take it back to the dealer again. Can the center bearing make that noise as well?

Accepted Answer

The center driveshft support bearing could also make the groaning noise. It is hard for me too say though over the internet
