One of the best ways to eliminate strong odors is also one of the least expensive.
You should unplug the refrigerator and remove all the food first.
Gather a pile of old newspapers. The bigger the better.
Then crumple up the newspapers into many small balls. Put the newspaper balls into the refrigerator in every spot you can jam it into. Don't forget the freezer section. Close the doors and leave the refrigerator for 5 days or so. Afterwards, the odor will be gone and you can remove the old newspapers.
We have used this sucessfully for many years.
A solution of equal parts hydrogen peroxide, detergent and baking soda is also best for the cleaning and deodorizing (before the above method).
