Question

2 years ago when I was in school full time I got a 30k student loan and had my mom co-sign for it because my credit alone wasn't good enough. 6 months ago I got really sick and couldnt work or go to school for months. I am finally getting back on my feet working but have yet to return to school. In the mean time my student loan defaulted and left a negative mark on me & my mom's credit repot. My mom is very upset about this and threatened to report this a forgery to the police to get it removed off of her credit if I dont pay it off. I honestly didnt think she would do something like that until yesterday when I got a call from a detective at the police department. He said my mom filed a police report saying I forged her name on the loan documents, I explained to him my story and he wants me to fax the loan documents monday. SHould I coroperate with him or just get an attorney. Or should i just not do anything unless I'm oficially charged with something?

Thank you for contacting Just Answer. I look forward to assisting you.

While we write back and forth, please keep in mind that I do not know what you already know or don't know, or with what you need help, unless you tell me.

There can also be a delay of an hour or more in between my answers because I may be researching the answer to your question, helping other customers, or taking a break.

I need the following answered before I can answer your question. Sorry - it's a little bit of a different process from sitting in an attorney's office.

Can you please tell me whether you actually forged your mom's signature on the loan documents?

I'll look forward to hearing from you,

I did not forge her name on the documents. I didnt tell that it was for 30k, I belive at the time it was for only 3k but I later increased the amount. When the detective called me, I told him the same thing I told you in my previous post. I have no criminal background I dont understand why he's asking me to fax the loan documents to him when I think he should just conduct his investigation with out me.

Answer

Well, in answer to your original question, don't talk to the detective anymore without an attorney. You've already said too much to him, by saying anything at all. If you can't afford an attorney, the state will provide one to you after you've been arrested, if that's what happens.
