Thanks for the question Scarlett.

In direct answer to your question : What you are dealing with sounds like it might be a urinary tract infection { UTI } also called cystitis. In the female cat while this disease will be uncomfortable it is not generally a serious situation but in the male cat there is a possibility that the urethra might become blocked and this is an emergency situation so it is best to deal with it before it gets to that stage

The signs of a UTI which is a bladder infection in the cat would be some or all of the following :

1. Increased frequency of urination.

2. Dysuria : Discomfort on urination and urinating for a prolonged period of time, and only able to pass very small amounts of urine.

3. The urine may be blood tinged or discoloured.

Uncomplicated UTIs are common in the cat and usually respond well to a course of antibiotics or other medication and resolve easily.

But : Other conditions might fit this set of symptoms as well. Consider stones in the bladder, bladder cancer.

I am so sorry I cannot suggest any home remedy here, I have to advise you to see your vet as the normal treatment would be antibiotics or other prescription drugs which you normally cannot buy over the counter.

If I can advise you further please get back in touch.
