Question
My Turkish Angora, Toshi, isn't eating his food. I've tried feeding him with wet food, too. And he seems somewhat interested, licks and maybe bites once or twice, but walks away. He has dilated pupils. Weight loss. Doesn't seem to drink much, if at all. I'm extremely concerned about him.

Optional Information
Age: 3; Male; Breed: Turkish Angora
Already Tried:
I've tried giving him wet food, and force feeding him a bit. I've been considering using liquid food and force feeding him that way, but I don't want to do something wrong.
I've been reassuring him, giving him more attention than usual, trying to boost his mood. He hasn't seemed more receptive to food, though. I've been putting off going to the vet because I haven't been paid yet.

Hi Joshua,
How long has your kitty been disinterested in eating?
How much weight has he lost?
Is he having any vomiting or diarrhea?

Well, he had just got done taking medication for a urinary bladder infection. He was eating like he always did, very enthusiastically. Then I became unemployed and couldn't feed him for about a week. I did my best to get him something, but could hardly feed myself.
I finally got him some food, and he didn't eat it. He took a few bites and walked away.
As for his weight loss, he is really skinny. I can't say for certain how much, not having a scale. I can only say that he was slightly plump and now I can feel bones easily when I pet him.
He hasn't vomitted to my knowledge. And I haven't even
seen
him near a litter box. Its why I'm so concerned.

Oh, also. Since that week or so of not eating, he hasn't eaten, as far as I've seen for about 3 weeks.
I'm planning to take him to a vet ASAP. I'm justing waiting for payday.

Hi Joshua,
Your cat sounds really ill. If he was as plump as you describe before this, and then his food supply was drastically cut off...he could have developed a condition called hepatic lipidosis (which is a serious liver problem). Other things that could cause a cat to rapidly lose weight and be off feed include:
Kidney disease
Diabetes mellitus
Hyperthyroidism
Cancer
The first three can be easily tested for with blood and urine laboratory tests. I recommend that you take your kitty in to the veterinarian for a complete physical examination. The vet will want to do a CBC/Chemistry panel/T4/Free T4/ and a Urinalysis.
If all looks normal on these tests, then X-rays and/or abdominal ultrasound can be pursued to look for signs of cancer. Most of these conditions can be treated or controlled, however some cancers are more treatable than others. The specific treatment in your cat's case is going to depend on the disease process underlying the symptoms.
If finances are of concern in this case, there are many organizations that exist to help with this. I am listing some of them here for you to contact and see how they might assist you.
