Question

Yesterday my vet flushed my cat's ears, cleaned his teeth and also ended up extracting an infected K-9. He was given Ketaset+ace 100mg i/M+ Iso2% during the procedure. Our concern is that he still seems to be under the influence of the drug and it has been 24hrs. His gait is unsteady, he doesn't seem to be able to focus his eyes on a fixed point, he doesn't seem to be able to hear and he still seems very groggy. Should we allow more than 24hrs for the drug to wear off?

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX,
If it has been over 24 hours since the procedure was done, the cat should not still be this affected by the drugs used. In some animals, they can have a sort of "hangover" from the ace the next day, but they should not have the severe problems with walking and focusing that you are describing. I recommend that you bring him into an emergency clinic to be evaluated tonight, if your regular vet is not open. I really feel that this would be the safest for him.

I hope that this information is of help to you, and that your kitty comes through this okay. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
