What would be the benefit of chemotherapy for a 61 yr old man with a fourth espiode of cancer. He was diangosed in 1990 and have prostate reove and radation for six weeks, daily. Four years later the has surgery again and had testes remove and was put on homorones. Last year,l 2007, he had a kidney removed and now PSA is up and hormone treatment has stopped, PSA then doubled and he was told he would need chemotherapy. He was also told he needed to make the decision as to when to have chemo , now or4 when PSA gets higher. I am confused and have no idea ow high PSA should get befroe chemo is started as he is having no problems/pain at this time.

When surgery, radiation and hormone therapy failed, the only option remains -chemotherapy. As the chemotherapy has the side effects, decision is difficult to take,
Doctor may wait for development of symptoms or the rise of PSA level. So, it needs to be decided by the consultation with the patient and the family members.
