Question

We have a built-in BBQ. It's probably 13 years old and the rack on the bottom that holds up the permanent "hot rocks" (or whatever they're called) grilling surface has collapsed. So now I've just got gas down there.

Sorry! I must have typed my whole question into the subject field. I'm new!

In any event, our built-in BBQ is connected to the gas line from our house. The brackets that hold up the grilling rack have rusted out and collapsed, so I think I need to replace the whole thing -- get a new BBQ and hook it up to the gas line, etc. Does this seem right and -- if so -- what kind of repairman am I looking for? Gas? Are there grill repairmen?

Relatedly (as I learned last night when we had tons of people over to BBQ), our OTHER grill isn't getting enough propane from the tank. The grill was originally set up for a "quick release" tank, but it became harder and harder to find those tanks, so I tried to screw in an adapter that would switch it from "quick release" to the more conventional (screw-in) connection. Now, I'm only able to get it up to 300 degrees or so.

Anyway, if you can just answer the first paragraph, that'd be great. I just realized that I probably tried to ask two questions at once!

It's a Ducane from 1987. We live in 22102, suburban Washington, DC.

Click here for a list of shops that will be able to repair both problems. It is likely a handyman can repair the grilling surface that has collapsed. The Ducane grill should be able to be updated without having to add an adapter to use the new style tank.
