Thank you for contacting Just Answer. I look forward to assisting you.
While we write back and forth, please keep in mind that I do not know what you already know or don't know, or with what you need help, unless you tell me.
There can also be a delay of an hour or more in between my answers because I may be researching the answer to your question, helping other customers, or taking a break.
I need the following answered before I can answer your question. Sorry - it's a little bit of a different process from sitting in an attorney's office.
Can you please tell me what city and state or province is involved in your question? I cannot see it on my screen right now. I may need the information so that I can look up the law in your jurisdiction.
Are you an "at will" employee?
Does your employer have a policy or employee handbook that covers the disciplianary process?
I'll look forward to hearing from you,
Jane Doe Deer
The city and state is Austin, Texas
Yes, I am an "at will" employee.
Yes, we do have an employee handbook covering disciplinary process.
The thing about being "at will," unfortunately, is that an employer can fire you at any time, for no reason, with a moment's advance notice. So, given that they can fire you, they can certainly suspend you.
The only thing that may save your job is whether or not you have the right to rely on the disciplinary process - IF they have violated it in your case. If so, this is the time to bring in an employment attorney. (Regardless of whether or not it goes this far, just to be safe, start looking for a new job NOW. )
Otherwise, as an 'at will" employee you don't have anything to rely on unless you are being discriminated against on the basis of sex, age, disability, etc.
I truly wish I had better news for you.
