Question
We have a Suzuki 9 horse outboard. I t starts but after a couple of seconds will die. What could be the problem?

Hi XXXXXXXXXX,
A number of things could be causing this, I will start with the simple things first,
you could have defective spark plugs, check/change.
Defective kill switch, trace switch wire and disconnect try without kill circuit.(White wire from memory)
Fuel pump diaphragm is split and letting excessive fuel into the crankcase.
Carb is dirty and restricting fuel to the engine, remove carb and clean.
I think the problem will more than likely lie under the flywheel in the form of the points/condensors, you will need to clean and regap them at minimum but more than likely they will need changing.
