someone tried to steal my 1982 320i. broke the screwdriver tip off in the ignition.got the tip out but key would not turn. had mechanic replace ignition lock cylinder but he says that i also need to replace the housing?the steering wheel is off looks bad...any ideas? thanks-

Hi, Usually the biggest problem is getting the lock out of the cylinder when the cylinder is damaged. You have to be able to place a special tool in the lock and turn the key at the same time to release the lock from the housing. Since you can't do this because the lock is physically damaged change the housing. It is better to spend the money on the part and have a new part than it would be to spend it on labor and still have an old part.
