Hi.
I was hired as a full time employee on a 12 month probationary period 6 mths ago. My director was in a car accident right before i flew out for my interview. HR, the city manager and others made an executive/panel decision to hire me. my boss returned to work after i had been employed for 2 months.
She has been taking pain medication and never works a full week.
In the last four months her behavior has been increasingly aggressive and outright hostile. E-mails riddled with exclamation points, dismissing and demeaning my input in meetings, lying to coworkers and constituents about my work, stealing files, 'misplacing' my work and accusing me of not producing, extremely slow turnaround on my projects and then holding me responsible for failure to meet deadlines, cursing, micromanagement, exclusion from meetings, and much more.
Additionally, my boss is officially retired at the end of june but has stayed on as an independent contractor as the interim director through october. I cannot understand why it is so important to her to thwart me when she is leaving.
Hello, it sounds like you are in a very difficult situation. You should start if you have not already done so documenting her behavior with dates and times and with very clear examples of her behavior. Also add any witnesses who may have seen such behavior.
This appears to be a very difficult situation and you may want to attempt to handle internally first by writing a letter to the top executive and copy H/R requesting that your situation be investigated and resolved. Discuss her behavior in details and give examples of her behavior also share how this has impacted you. Request not to be retaliated against. Not sure that she has singled you out because of any protective class status but if you feel she is discriminating because of your race, gender, age, religion, national orgins you may consider filing an EEOC complaint with the EEOC/Human Rights Commission. See www.eeoc.gov I hope this has helped if so click accept.
