Question
3 years ago I bumped the back end of someone's vehicle - I had been at a complete stop. There was no damage to his vehicle. Last week I received a summons stating that he's suing me for an amount in excess of $5000 - claiming injury, emotional distress, loss of use of his vehicle etc. I didn't know it at the time, but our auto insurance had lapsed. What should I do?

Answer
You need to get a personal injury defense attorney to answer the suit. If he wins a judgment against you, you will be liable for the judgement since your insurance had lapsed. Also in most states the person must sue you within 2 years of the accident so you may have a defense that the statute of limitations has run depending on which state you are in.
