Answer

I would try to stop some of the chewing\licking at the area for now by giving benadryl at 1mg per lb. A 10lb dog would get two childrens benadryl capsules twice a day (each childrens capsule is 5mg) He needs to be taken to a veterinarian where they can clip the area down to the skin and clean it real well. A matt of hair with some scabs is a perfect place for an infection. I also would make sure he does not have any signs of fleas because this is a common area they chew at when there are fleas irritating them.
