my 1998 xk8 won''t start. this morning the message light said the battery was not being charged. this evening I went out and it doesn''t even turn over.... radio and lights come on

Sounds like you have a charging system problem like a bad alternator or a loose power lug under the center console on the passenger side (common problem). You will have to jump start the car and have the battery and charging system properly checked. You can see if the alternator is working by checking the battery with a voltmeter. It should read above 13.5 volts with the engine running and accessories off.
