I have tempoary custody of grandchildren mother had full custody 2004, yet father claimed both children for the calender year. What can I do about this to stop him

Answer

You can file your return by "paper," claiming the children and mailing it in. Attach proof that you were the custodial parent. The IRS will review your attachment and will grant you the exemptions for the children if you have proven your case. If the father tries to claim them, they will disallow his right to the exemption.
