Dogs can be very stoic. A constricted pupil with increased tears and squinting are signs of pain. She may have inflammation of the uvea and associated structures called anterior uveitis. Other signs of uveitis include inflamed red conjunctiva (lining of the eye socket), a hazy appearance to the eye, avoiding light or squinting more in bright light, lack of energy and lack of appetite.
Causes of uveitis include some of the tick borne diseases (Lyme, Anaplasma, Erhlichia), scratches to the cornea, infections, immune mediated disease, cancer and parasites. In most cases, a cause is never determined. We call that idiopathic uveitis.
