Hi my pomeranian is whining, hiding from us, and when we try to pick him up he starts crying. And will only sit on his side. He attempted to vomit earlier and was unsuccessful.

I would not wait I'd get him in to see a vet today if at all possible.
This may be due to intestinal upset from a change in food, intestinal parasites such as worms, coccidia, or giardia, or he could have a viral infection starting too if he is not up to date on shots.
This could also be due to a swallowed non food item such as a toy or bone or rock etc., ingestion of something toxic including plants, mushrooms, chemicals etc.
So seeing the vet to find out what is going on should be a priority.
