i have 2002 1500 silverado with a 4.8l v-8 my codes read lean in bank 1 & 2 i was told to clean the egr valve but i cannot find it for the life of me it is not where the haynes repair book shows it

It should be on the passenger side of the engine on the front of that cylinder head. I would use brake cleaner an spray it along the intake at the gasket surface with the engine running and listen for a change in engine RPM. Chances are that he intake plenum gaskets are sucking air causing the lean code.

its not there, it should be infront of the oil fill on the valve cover it's not there and there is no hoses going to the exuast manifold or to the intake just an empty space its not where the repair manual shows it thats what confuses me

Then your truck has federal emissions EGR is california only

I suspect the intake plemum gaskets are sucking air

so can the intake gasket just be good one minute and bad the next? it was running fine and now wont at all, it sputters and sounds like its suckin in to much air then dies

You need to check the fuel pressure,fuel pressure will cause the vehicle to lack power, sputter it could also set the lean code.
