Question

My 2001 Blazer hesatates while on freeway. I''ve had the problem for some time now, about a year, so I have done some tests while driving it and came up with the following. 1. After I fill the tank this problem rarely shows up until I''ve run about 8 to 9 gallons out of the tank. 2. Once the hesatations start they continue at random the whole trip. 3.Also when I fill the tank the car starts up the 1st try always but as I use more gas out of the tank it will no longer start on the 1st try normally the 2nd each time with a little more cranking. I,ve done all the stuff a average home guy can do, plug, plug wires, rotorcap, fuel filter ect. My daily drive requires me to cross the S.F. bay bridge each day and to have the car stop durning traffic is a bad thing.

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXX,this is sort of a strange instance, I've dealt with a lot of 4.3 engines and driveability issues,It would seem that you covered the maintenance basics,A couple of things that I would check based on your decription are, Stored trouble codes, I have seen locking gas caps cause issues,I would want to check fuel pressure, I would check exhaust backpressure,I would also drive the vehicle with a scanner attached to watch the fuel trim parameters, and oxygen sensors to try to figure out what is happening. It almost suonds as if a negative pressure in your tank is causing it, but that would set an evap code. This one is hard to diag online, but if there are any other questions you may have, please ask. Good luck...Gary

I was thinking that it is the fuel pump but it looks like there is a even chance that it is something else. I have a obd2 reader and it had no stored codes after use but got a "monitor not run status" for the catalyst monitor "c" secondary air system "2a" oxygen sensor heater monitor "OH" and the evap system monitor "EV" No matter how long I let the thing read those would not read I did'nt know if that was normal or not. At least if I take to someone I'll have some extra info.
Thanks
XXXXXXXX

The monitors should reset after a drive cycle, But, if your thermostat is not getting up to temperature, the monitors will not reset.check your heat temp.Thanks...Gary
