Hi XXXXXX;
Most garbage disposals make a humming noise. Is there something that your unit is not doing? Not spinning, motor not spinning but blades are free, motor spinning but blades dont, Or does it sound like the motor is jammed?
Also could you please tell me what brand of disposal this is.

If the unit is humming and the motor is not turning then I am sorry but the motor is toast.
When you say the blades are turning are you refering to the two little things on top of the plate? If so then the unit may just need to be freed up. Something is lodged inbetween the grinding plate and the side walls of the unit.
If the whole grinding plate is spinning freely then the unit is gone and will need to be replaced.
