Question

i have a 1975 75 horsepower eninrude i had the carbs rebuilt and a new fuel and water pump put on. the problem i am having it will idle all day long but when i put it in gear it dies out. can anyone help to explain why.

The question is if you can rev up the engine normally while in neutral. If so the problem is probably just setting the idle up a little.

You want enough RPM's at idle that the engine does not die when shifted into gear, but not so many the gears "clunk" when engaging.
