Have you checked it for codes? Cycle the key from off to on 3 times and leave it on, watch the engine light. It will flash codes. The codes are 2 digit. The first digit of the code will flash, then there will be a longer pause, then more flashes-this is the second digit of the code. There may be another long pause, then more flashes, this is the start of the next code. The last code will be a 55. Let me know what you get. With your voltmeter check the battery voltage. An at-rest battery should have around 12.6 volts. Then start the car and check the voltage again. Let me know what you get for both tests.

No code Put in a new battery and also new alternator Had a 12 first then a 55

Ok. 12 is set when the battery is disconnected, and the 55 means end of list, so basically we have no codes. Is the problem still happening now with the new alternator and battery? Is it exactly the same? Have you checked the voltage with the car running to make sure it is charging?

It is still doing the same thing the voltage with the car running is 13.8

Accepted Answer

Ok. Check your ground connections. Follow the ground cable from the battery to the other end, clean that connection. Also check voltage drop in the cable. with the headlamps on put the ground lead of your meter on the negative battery post, put the other lead of the meter on the bolt of the ground cable and check dc voltage. If you get much of a reading on the meter, the cable has some internal problems and needs to be replaced.
