it seems everytime I get my car (2001 740il) repaired, 2 days later I have another repair for 3 times the amount of the previous repair was. I had a coil that needed to be replaced. they the replaced all of the plugs as a pre- caution.   the following day the alternater was not working. Is there a wire that could have been trip accidently?

it came on when running. first the battery light and then the alternater light

Have you had it tested? There is a chance for coecidence and you now need an altenator
