Question

The driver's power seat switch has stopped working on my wife's '99 Z3 coupe. I have a used replacement switch but started looking around on the 'net about replacing it--wow-- a lot of warnings about what to do, not do , disconnect etc. I am wondering if I can do it by myself. Also, assuming the seat has to be removed and since the switch will not work at all, how do I even move the seat to expose the bolts at the front and rear of the tracks?

Answer

Hello, have you checked your fuses? These switched don't fail very often. Does the passenger seat work? Let me know. Thanks.

Answer

It looks like you will have to remove the seat the replace the switch. Are you able to get a wrench under to remove the bolts. If you are limited on your space you will have to lift the seat as you remove the bolts. Let me know is you run into any issues Thanks

Thanks Wesley. OK-it does look like I can get a wrench under there even though the seat will not move up or back. My real concern is what to unplug, disconnect etc. when I start this project. Battery lead? Key in or out? Can you help me thru this if I tackle it?

Accepted Answer

It is not necessary to disconnect the battery or the key is not an issue. Once the seat is up just unplug the wires. Be careful not to pull any of the wires out of the connectors. Let me know how it goes. Thanks
