What print reference source would I need to go to, to find the answer to the following question: What water temperature can goldfish tolerate? I need to know the name of the reference source, what was in the table of contents to lead to the answer, on what page was the answer found, and, finally, what is the answer to the goldfish question.

by Erik L. Johnson, Richard E. Hess

Table of Contents says
Chapter 1 Goldfish Keeping and Husbandry
page 17 Temperature

from this site
http://www.goldfishparadise.com/water/temperature.php
Ideal aquarium temperature for goldfish is actually between 70-75oF (21-24oC)
Goldfish can tolerate temperatures ranging from 32-86oF (0-30oC).
I doubt any book would list different temperatures than that.

My advice on both books is looking at the pictures on Amazon as the person you are reporting to is apt to ask you some extra question like what did the book look like...
