Answer
Thanks for the question Wendy.
Zinc in any quantity is poisonous to parrots.
The symptoms you might expect to see would include drinking excessively, weight loss, weakness, diarrhoea, and seizures. The symptoms can be variable.
A vet who is familiar with parrots will be able to take a blood test and confirm the diagnosis by measuring the blood zinc levels.
Treatment would by using drugs which bind to the zinc and take it out of your birds system, nothing you can do on your own I am afraid.
Here is a link to a very good web site which covers the subject : http://www.theparrotsocietyuk.org/index.php/Zinc/109
If I can advise you further please get back in touch.

Hello again Wendy.
Zinc symptoms are poisoning variable so it is possible your bird has it.
The first step is to get it diagnosed via a simple blood test, you see the problem is that you would not use the class of drugs required to treat zinc poisoning unless you were sure of the diagnosis.
My advice therefor is to have your vet check her out ...

Scott
