Question

Hi, my family is looking to hire an attorney in a possible wrongful death case. Our father died in an airplane crash due to the propeller coming off during flight, possibly due to faulty bolts. We have spoken with a law firm and are curious to know if the percentage of contingency fee we were quoted is ballpark for this type of case. Could someone give us a rough idea of what to expect? The case is in Arizona. Thank you!

Accepted Answer

Most personal injury attorneys that take cases on a contingency will ask for 33 1/3% of any money collected in a settlement plus all costs (expert fees, travel fees, filing fees, etc.). If the case does not settle and has to go to trial, most contingencies go up to 40% plus all costs.

These figures are generally accepted as reasonable throughout the legal community.
