Question

94 Accord, Chapman Security system, can only start the car if I hold down a little red button near the hood release, and the remote door locks do not work. Sound like something I can remedy without taking to my auto repair guy?

Answer

Hello XXXXXX,
Welcome to Justanswer

I am sorry this took so long to get an answer. Here are a couple reasons. First for aftermarket components like you have installed on your vehicle many things depend on WHO installed them. Since this is an unknown and we depend on possitive feedback to keep our status here it scares many off.

Second reason why is many here are very highly trained factory technictians and do not deal with aftermarket components. The ones that do have a hard time passing the questions on things other then their speciallty of aftermarket components.

That said I will TRY to give you as much information as I can about teh very limited knowledge I have of this aftermarket system. Please eitehr accept my knowledge or let me know and I will opt out. If you are not happy please just say so and I will pass dont leave a negative for me.

OK, First I believe you have acouple things wrong here which should be fairly easy to repair. They maybe time consuming but will not require extensive mechanical ability to repair.

First I feel the switch under your hood has slipped or worn out of possition. I FEEL that this switch is there to protect your vehicle from having its battery stolen. I feel you will need to addjust the position of the switch or hot wire it to allow it to start without needing to push the button to start it.

Second the the remote door locks can be a couple of things. Does none of the doors work when it is pushed? If this is the case is the battery for the remote any good? If the battery is bad it may cause your whole system to be faulty. Have acctually heard the alarm work? Does it work? If the battery is dead and the horn part for the alarm does not work it is possible that the alarm system will not allow it to start if the hood is open.

There is the basics. Lets get to the more specifics.
If the system was installed the way that is often considered the proper way. Then the starter disable is wired in a normally closed type circuit. If the system is faulty and it is keeping this circuit open, it is also using power. This power drain would definitely kill your battery over time. What I would suggest is to take down the dash panel under the steering column, find the wires that are tapped in, follow them back to the fuse holders and remove the fuse(s). This will permanently disable the system and should return the ability to start the vehicle with the key.

If the starter kill was wired in a normally open configuration then in that same harness find the wire that was cut (Black/White in a 96 Accord) and restore it, soldering it is the best way, but a butt-connector will suffice.

For the switch Like I said this should be adjusted or hotwired around at least for the short term.

For the door remote locks not working I would be willing to bet that this is due to bad connections for teh wiring that was installed. amny do not use dialectric grease and they corrode very fast and get abd connections If this all interestes you please let me konw and I will put the instructions to remove the door panels and gain access to the wirees and correct them.

You will need a volt/ohm meter to test wires and be able to look for bad wores connections.

If this interests you or has been helpful please click accept. If not I can opt out and leave it posted for another expert to answer.
