my 1974 pontiac ventura is having some problems. the starter went out on it and we installed a new one. it started fine then when i went to turn the car off it stayed on. we couldnt figure out the problem so we returend the starter for a differnt one. we hooked up the wires correctly on the starter acccording to a blue print of a 1974 pontiac ventura stater online. the car still wont shut off when you turn off t the key in the ignition.

Thanks for your question. First off this is not a starter problem. It seems only coincidental to your starting problem. On a 74 the only way an engine can continue to run is if it continues to get electrical power and ground at the coil. The main power to the coil comes from the ignition switch thru the fuse box. You should have electronic ignition so you will have a large orange wire at the distributor. This is the main power to the coil. With the key off there should be no power there. If there is suspect the ignition switch.
