Info Request

Hello,

How long has she been feeling bad?

When was the last bowel movement?

Was it hard or did she have trouble moving her bowels?

When was the last time she ate and how much did she eat?

When you say she is lethargic, how so?

  • Will she get up to play or potty?
  • Will she get up for a snack or to eat?
  • If someone knocks at the door will she get up to investigate?

Answer

Hi,

Sounds like she is constipated and may be backed up enough to cause her to be upset at her stomach. Often when a dog has a serious case of constipation they will lack energy and may even slow down or stop eating altogether.

To cure the immediate problem you can start by mixing 1 teaspoon of pumpkin into her meals to get her regular again. If you need to you can add some more until she go's.
Sometimes constipation is from not getting enough fiber into your dogs diet or because she isn't getting enough fresh water. If this becomes a problem you may want to look into increasing fiber into her diet.

Another reason for constipation can be a blockage from something she ate such as garbage, or a broken bit of bone or toy, if you believe this may be the case of the constipation, I would highly recommend a trip to her vet. When a pet has a blockage, they may exhibit any of the following symptoms: vomiting, loss of appetite, distended belly, an absence of feces or a change in the feces, blood in the stool or vomit, drooling, and retching or trying to vomit with the meal coming up or nothing coming up. If your pet exhibits one or more of these signs a trip to the vet is highly recommended.

If she is not feeling better by tomorrow I would strongly suggest she see her vet.

thank you walter
she has very glassy eyes and can hardly hold her head up
would this be a part of that

Hello,

No, if she is that lethargic that she has trouble holding her head up this has gone to far....it may be the constipation but then again it could be something far more serious. Th glassy look is a concern as well.

At this point I would suggest a quick trip to your vets office for a examination. Anytime your dog is having trouble standing, holding the head up etc she is really really sick and must be treated.
