Hi and thank you for choosing Just Answer

You really cannot just remove the programs without re-installing them again when needed. What you can do is just remove the shortcuts to the programs - Is that what you wish to do?

On an older model computer that I had before this one my son visited us from El Paso Texas and again I had over 50 icons on my desk top and he somehow removed them and put the in a folder, can I not do the same thing as he did? There are some programs thatI wish to keep but not on my desktop...Thank you for your time and effort.

Answer

Sure - you can do that -

All you need to do is right click an empty area of the desktop - and select New then from new select Folder. The new folder will appear ready for you to type a name into it. After you name it - just hit enter. Now - the icons that you want inside that folder - just click on an icon with the left mouse button and hold it in. While you are holding in the button - just drag the icon right to the folder - and it will place itself inside.

You can also select an icon with the left mouse button by clicking once and letting go - then press and hold the Ctrl button and select another, and let go - then while you have two selected - you can grab them with the left mouse button and drag two or more at a time to the folder. This method might take some practice - and it is easy to make duplicate copies of icons if you do not hit the destination folder right on target.

So until you get the hang of it - stick with the one at a time method
