The Latin name is Asimina triloba.
An early name for the fruit was "Indiana banana". Also: "Hoosier
banana".

Interestingly (for me anyway), what we have here that I thought was a pawpaw is actually a Mountain Pawpaw (Carica pubescens), no relation at all! Go figure.

Reply to Oreport's Post: I thought I had already done this. Plus sent a e-mail to Xargi.

But are there more ideas out there on how to protect my now precious fruits from the critters out there.

We have mountain lions, deer, opossum, raccons, black bear that occasionally roam through Paradise.
