What is the charge to replace a knock sensor in a mercury villager van> 1999. Could a leaking gas cap make the check engine light come on>

Already Tried:
I had the car put on the diagonsis test but the car hasnt knock and they said the gas cap was worn. Could this be a cause for the engine light to come on.

That is quite expensive, my manual calls for 5.3 ($350.00) hours and the part is $300.00 and gaskets are about $75.00. And yes the gas cap being loose can make the check engine light come on.
