Question

I have a 7 yr-old spayed female whippet. Her audible *stomach growling* (managed with Pepsid) caused vet to perform comprehensive blood & urine testing -twice. First results showed serum albumin at 2.3 and urine albumin at 8. A two week course of Baytril was prescribed to treat any possible kidney infection. Also, X-rays of kidneys were inconclusive (poor views). Second results two weeks later showed serum albumin of 2.4 and urine albumin of 10. No RBC or WBC present. The veterinarian is uncertain of what might be causing these results - though she had previously mentioned concern for kidney function. Previous tests show normal albumin levels (May 2007). My vet now suggests I seek further veterinary advice for review of the findings and ultrasound of kidneys. Do you know what might be the cause of her unusual albumin levels and what else I might consider in addition to taking her to the Veterinary Specialists. She appears to be a healthy whippet - and is active - though a bit overweight. She is also on Proin for incontinence (and she's had numerous UTI's). Typical diet is grain-free kibble - none on "tainted" list....
