Question
My 11 year old female dashie was diagnosed with Pancreatitis, she was treated with antibotics and a IV for 48 hours with our vet. She was released and I was told to keep close watch on her , make sure she is not still vomiting, with a special diet from our vet.I brought her home this past Thurdsay. She will not eat anything , she continues to drink lot of water but still no food. She is urinating about every hour or so. My vet''s office was closed thru today ...I will call the vet and take her in the morning, but do you have any suggestions

Hi rsstone,
How was your dog diagnosed with this disease? Did she have blood tests? A sonogram?
What were her initial symptoms, that led you to take her into the vet in the first place?
Has she eaten absolutely nothing since Thursday...or is she eating dog treats, or handouts from the table?
What was the special diet that your vet sent you home with?

Her symptons were swollen around stomach area appeared very tender, she began to moan and after taking her to the vet they did blood work and x-rays were taken, vet stated her enzyme count was what led to the diagnosis of pancreatis. She has not eaten anything , I tried w/ small bites of her favorite things but she was not interested. The vet sent me home with a dog food named : Hill's Prescription Diet i/d. Vet also stated "fatty foods' was one of the factors that led to her illness. She is better than when I originally took her , but the fact that she will not eat at all concerns me, she also is weak.
Thank You!

So, she has eaten absolutely nothing since Thursday? Is this the case?
Did she have any vomtiing before you took her in? If not, did she have any vomiting while in the hospital?
You stated in your original post that she drinks alot of water. Was she doing that before you brought her in to the hostpital? Or only since she has gotten home?
Would you happen to have the results of her blood tests?
Did she only have blood tests, or did she have a urine test done as well?

She was vomiting before I took her in , this one one of the reasons she was able to come home , because she was able to keep water down. She has not drank as much water in the past as she has now.. no where near as much following tests were done :
Exam / Radiograph , Blood Panel , i-stat E3 = w/ GHP , Pancreatic Exocrine Test, Fluid Therapy I.V. , IV Cath 20 ga , Fluids IV pump , IV set, Ampicillin 1 g vial , Injection Cerenia / ml .. this is per vet statement ... hope this is helpful

She has not vomited since she came home on Thursday July 3rd. She was in the hospital, Wednesday all day and spent the night and all day Thursday, and got to come home Thursday evening.

Okay...
I am very unsettled by the fact that your dog has not eaten at all since Thursday. This is not the normal course of events for a dog that has pancreatitis. It sounds like your dog was somewhat treated for pancreatitis, but it does not sound like your dog was actually definitively diagnosed with this condition.
Pancreatitis cannot be diagnosed based on "pancreatic enzymes" (amylase and lipase) on a regular blood panel. This condition is diagnosed based on the results of an abdominal ultrasound (sonogram), or a TLI assay (which is a blood test that takes almost a week to come back).
I am attaching a client inforamtion sheet that I use in my practice that discusses pancreatitis in more detail. I hope that you find it useful.

If your dog has truly not eaten since Thursday, then you need to get her to a different veterinarian as soon as possible...preferably one who is a specialist in veterinary internal medicine. You can ask your general practitioner for a referral to one in your area. Most specialists are located at referral centers or colleges of veterinary medicine. The benefit of seeing a specialist in internal medicine, is that you are more likely to get a quick and accurate diagnosis of your animal's problem, and thus a faster resolution of the symptoms. It is also more likely that a specialist has seen this problem before and treated it successfully.
I hope that this information is fo help to you, and that your dog feels better soon. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
