Info Request

3 questions. 1. Will the car unlock from the doors with the key? 2. Do you just mainly want to gain entry into the trunk? 3. Will the key rotate in the lock cylinder for the trunk?

Yes, the key unlocks the doors. The key will turn half way clock and counter clock ways in the trunk lock. I just need entry to the trunk.

It sounds as if the linkage disconnected from the lock cylinder. Does your rear seat have a pass through opening into the trunk?

Reply

No, there is no way to get in the trunk from the back seat.

the car is a convertible if that makes a difference

Accepted Answer

If the lock cylinder is inoperable the only way in is to remove the back seat and try to operate the latch from the inside. That is the only way. On your Jaguar, I'm not sure if the fuel tank is located directly behind the rear seats or under the vehilcle. It is not an easy task, but that is the only way.

Thank you. I'm not sure we can do that. I guess it goes back to the dealer for service tomorrow.

Answer

It does make a difference, Since it is a convertible, all the mechanisms are located in the area, with the roof up, the covers, covering the mechanisms will have to be relocated to get a view of the latch. There very well may be trim pieces conceiling the latch. These componenets will need to be manipulated out of the way through whatever access you have from the passenger cabin. My suggestion is to have an autobody shop help you. An average auto repair shop may be challenged by this, but an autobody shop knows what is behind the metal and deals with this type of thing often.
